Re: Cardiologist Doctor Flores at Ajjic clinic
My husband had to have a stress test years ago and Dr. Flores said he flunked even though he was in good shape, reason being he had lunch and a beer before he went in and Dr. Flores didn't ask him any of the questions that should of made him do it another time.

he arranged for a cardiologist "surgeon" to insert stents in me. he calls himself a "diagnostician". i'm sure he is tired of driving his bmw and would like to get a lamborghini with your help by having you come in to his office for the rest of your life for "rehabilitation".
oh,and hensley, a beer and lunch will not make you "flunk" a stress test.

I flunked too and had to have an angiogram to find out I was ok but was going to need long life monitering, I left did not take the pills and am still around many years later.
I had check up since every year and no cardiologist ever found any thing wrong since then.

it seems like doing angiograms by some cardiologists around here has been determined to be the latest lucrative procedure and perhaps not necessary, and the cost keeps escalating. over the last 7+ years i have had dealings with 3gp's, and 4 groups of cardiologists here re:heart and stroke. yes most of the cardios work in "groups". unfortunately,i could write a book.
how about putting this under medical/dental, senor admin?

It seems that the stent and pacemaker are the latest cash cows in this area. It is easy to say get second and third opinions in many (most?) cases but I am not sure how to protect yourself from this one. The popular doctor who took a friend to "his" special specialist in Guadalajara. After testing, the friend was told if he left the hospital he could die any moment but luckily the cardiologist was available that very moment so into the cath lab with him immediately. Well, fancy that, after the invasive (and expensive) procedure no stent was needed after all. After the shock wore off, my friend took the read-out that had triggered the emergency angioplasty to other cardiologists. Without saying he had had anything done, he asked for an opinion. They looked at the readouts and said there was nothing to be concerned about. The tests were perfect. When you hear someone say a doctor "saved my life" remember that may or may not be true.

stents are not cash cows-they are totally necessary to save your life and the need can be detected through means other than angiogram as the first diagnostic tool.first time i had 4 and the first angiogram showed 2 arteries 95% shut in 2 places each and a whole bunch at 50-75%, cardiologist will only stent large enough arteries that are over 85% blocked or you will die with a heart attack from lack of blood to portions of your heart muscle.Lady Otter Latté wrote:It seems that the stent and pacemaker are the latest cash cows in this area. Unnecessary procedures are the cash cows and using the words blockage, stents and "you could die" generate cash for unscrupulous doctors. The problem is telling the difference when you are being pressured to have a five-thousand-pesos procedure done RIGHT NOW or you could drop dead when you walk out the door. This particular doctor used an EKG to show my then frail, emotionally-fragile friend (who was there alone) that his life was in danger. They know upon whom they can prey.

my first "procedure" was $23,000 cdn and included 5 days in del carmen and 2 of those in intensive care.so yes, i would have died. good stents are not cheap unless they are made in china.medicated stents are twice the price of regular stents. the 2 cardiologists were 4000 pesos.

Dr. Flores regards money as his #1 priority. I would seek out another doctor for your cardiac problems. He does not think it is necessary to discuss how much any of his procedures will cost. He is, gently putting it, maniacal about filling his pocket book with cash payments as well.

I PM'd my opinion, which is that he is overly fond of expensive tests, numerous office visits and of course being paid in cash. I used to like the Ajijic Clinic, Dr Rodriguez is excellent. I won't go near the place now.

Re: Cardiologist Doctor Flores at Ajjic clinic
i don't know if it's still there but the sign above the receptionist said:consultation $500p,stress test$400p
so when i went for my post op "rehab" which was the stress test once/week and daily power walking for 2 k. he wanted both for each visit.i refused and pointed out to him what it said on the fee board. i paid him the higher rate[$500p] but not both. this carried on for many weeks and each week he bugged me about it until i felt i had had enough rehab testing-adios.
