speaking of wifi
is anyone having constant problems in west chapala[lourdes]?
this has been ongoing forever. my wife is on wifi from my modem and only about 10 ft away and it's constantly going off. last week our guests were set up downstairs and had no trouble through a thick concrete floor.
adrian has suggested getting a new modem from telmex but i am reluctant because my tower works fine. i just remembered that our vonage goes crappy once in a while too even though the router is new.
another thing. the voltage regulator makes a buzzing noise very frequently and loudly.
the modem is about 4 years old i think.

OK so it works fine on your tower so you tower is connected with wire to modem right? Problem is only wifi right? Borrow another router from someone and plug it into the telmex modem and try the wifi from borrowed router. If it works now get a new modem from Telmex. I assume you have unplugged the modem/router for five minutes and reboot it right? If not do so now please and let us know if anything has changed.

Re: speaking of wifi
I'm not sure I understand the question. In today's environment people usually network with either Ethernet (wired) or WiFi (wireless) both use routers that have hardware specific to that proticall. Some equipment will do both. I hope that helps. Also things like defective transformers can drastically interfere with WiFi. I have even seen it were the nabors lawnmower (verified with a noise meeter) was causing problems...

Re: speaking of wifi
Pedro,
Many of us east of Chapala are having similar ongoing problems with our internet service. If it is the same issue we are having, there is nothing wrong with your modem or your wifi, it is back within the Telmex system somewhere. Several times a day the internet just "goes away", and then comes back after awhile. Sometimes powering the modem down and back up again gets it working again so life goes on. What the computer savvy people out this way think is that Telmex has a bad or outdated old server somewhere in one of their CO's and just have not either figured it out yet or are just to cheap to replace it. When the internet goes down, the land line telephone service keeps working just fine so there does not seem to be any problems with the wiring or anything.

Pedro you don't know Focal Tonal? It is a spot east of Chapala where strange things happen. Voices get louder and softer. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't. In this case he is implying weird going on I believe.
Funny

Phone DSL has two speeds one upload which is much less than the download speed. It looks like you had down to you bandwidth but not up to them bandwidth. Also when VOIP phones start running out of bandwidth they switch from full bidirectional to like a radio where only one side can talk at a time. Hope this helps understanding what is going on.

Re: speaking of wifi
my upload now is 563 and the minimum requirement is 90. i wonder if it is our 10 year old uniden chordless 2 phone system.

Re: speaking of wifi
I infer that you mean your upload is 563meg and 90meg is the minimum required. Based on the things you have said, i highly doubt that your phone is the problem. The next time you have phone talk problems, do a speed test and see were you are.

Re: speaking of wifi
actually 90 kbps is minimum required and it's usually way above that so i'm thinking it's the 10year old phone. isn't that way beyond planned obsolescence? the vonage router is new by the way and that didn't solve it either.

Re: speaking of wifi
I find that if I am using my Vonage AND my husband is using his laptop at the same time I have trouble with the Vonage. Using an iPad does not seem to affect it, however trying to email a photo at the same time drops the call.

Re: speaking of wifi
It's all about bandwidth. There is only so much available from Telmex through your modem so if you have multiple users or activities happening on the same modem they will all be slower. I always turn off any downloads etc. before using my Skype with video.
Re: speaking of wifi
ok. the problem with everything was a defective voltage regulator. speakers, vonage, wifi. instead of 110,it was at 190-3v. it's a wonder nothing got cooked. having it repaired fer 250p and looking for another as well.
