Favorite Places to Tour
Are there some favorite places in Mexico you have visited using local tour companies? My wife and I want to do some tours based out of Ajijic while we can. Any reccomendations?
Thanks

Re: Favorite Places to Tour
I second Lydia's Tours. I have been on a couple of them and was never disappointed. The one coming up to Chiapas looks awesome and I only wish I had the time right now to go on it.

Take a van tour around the lake. Charter Tours in Plaza Montana in Ajijic on Carraterra.
One day back same day. (lake is big and roads don't go all the way around.)

i beg to differ. every year in mid october there is a mass moto ride around the lake en toto. and many people on these web boards have made the drive around the lake. one can do it leisurely or in a hurry. one year a bunch of moto amigos got to my birthday bash by 1pm after riding around the lake.

It's a 5 - 6 hour drive around the lake. I've done it a couple of times. Your amigo's must have started at 7:00am.
Re: Favorite Places to Tour
they started at 8 am i think and boy do they like to ride hard. not everyones cup of tea. most ride harleys.

Chiapas is awsome if you get the right weather. Right now the weather has bee great and the country looks beautiful. Forget the lake and go and explore really beautiful places.

CB:
If you have made the drive around the lake a couple of times in your Vocho, it must be equipped with special features to travel on the water since "roads don't go all the way around"????

You too??
There used to be roads that went around the lake 30 years ago...maybe things have changed?

Re: Favorite Places to Tour
About 11 years ago we took the Charter Club Tour around the Lake! Boy! What a long day, it was something like 12 hours, because they stopped everywhere, and towards the end, everyone just wanted to get back to Ajijic! Once we got to Sahuayo, never saw much more of the Lake, maybe a peek near Jamay. Not long after that, I read where Charter Club Tours, were only doing part way around the Lake.

This is a mistake. The roads do go all the way around. I have done it in my Honda Accord. Some of the best views of the lake can be had just above Mezcala.
I used Google Maps and a TomTom GPS. Coming from the south on East Side of the lake you turn left after you go through Ocotlan. In San Pedro Itzican you must drive on cobblestone streets and sometimes dirt roads.

You need to get out more Cheena. They sure do go all the way around. The roughest part is down the mountain road from Ponticitlan to San Pedro just before Mezcala on the north side of the lake.

Like many others, I have driven the full loop around the lake. I was quoting from another member's post and he must not have made the trip?

Re: Favorite Places to Tour
Charter tours is the tour I am talking about Pedro not you and the boys riding around
the lake. As another person pointed out it takes all day like I said. As far as going around the lake you can't unless you make a road from Mezcala to Ocotlan cause there is not road there. You have to go inland and around to Ocotalan. Sorry I was not clearer. Are you folks saying there is a road next to lake between these two places?

Re: Favorite Places to Tour
Nope, never said the road was lakeside the whole way, just that you can drive the whole loop. In a few places the road meanders quite a ways inland.
Re: Favorite Places to Tour
Go to Tequila for the day, or overnight.
Either do the whole Tequila Express day via the train out of Guad, or drive on your own out to Casa Herradura in Amititan (use the free road, not the cuota) and take the tour, then go into the town of Tequila and walk around and have lunch / comida. Nice hotel in centro if you want to stay longer and maybe go out to see the silver & gemstones out further towards PV.

Re: Favorite Places to Tour
I know you said "tours," but two of my favorite places to visit on your own are Zamora, Michoacan (particularly the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe) and Jamay, Jalisco, on the northeast side of Lake Chapala. The monument to Pope Pius IX is amazing. Jamay is definitely do-able within a day, but Zamora might require an overnight.
I'll bet you could arrange for a tour with one of the guides mentioned above.
Have fun!

Colima - it's close to the coast and about 2 1/2 hour drive from here. Some times Noe goes there and Charter Club Tours. I have also driven there and it's an easy drive - you want to stay over night and do the museums and hacienda.
