Widespread phone/Internet outage

On TOB many are posting that there is no service in Ajijic, San Antonio, or La Floresta and that ATM's are nonfunctional. Also sections of TOB is offline as many are posting that they cannot view the content of any post, only the topic. I am in Chapala Centro and phones/Internet went out sometime this morning. My neighbor does have phone service and thank goodness for his graciousness in letting me connect to the Internet on his wifi which reaches into the part of my house right next to his. At least this way I can get my Magic Jack phone messages and reply by email. I had originally thought it was only my service as I changed my billing method earlier this month from a debit card to a credit card. Even though the bill was dutifully paid on the credit card, I was skeptical that they had recognized the new method and had cut my service off merely because the debit card wasn't used as in the past. This is probably not the case now after reading all the topic headings on TOB. Only one person has posted about their phone being out on this board, so maybe I'll wait for more info before showing up with my credit card bill in hand on Monday to complain.....as SNL's Emily Leitila would end up sheepishly saying, "never mind."

Lower Riberas here, phone went out sometime after noon. Internet spotty.

Yup--phone is out. Internet has been snail slow since yesterday, I time out before I can connect to some sites. I can connect to TOB but cannot read posts--this may not be connected. Good news: I can still watch TV on Shaw Direct, so I can find out if the world has ended.

P.S. It appears, based on CNN and PBS World News, that the world as we know it has NOT ended. In case you were wondering!

Landline is back on. Internet still too slow to dowload a movie.

Just got back from Isla Mezcala - ATMs not working there either!!!! Tequila is thiough ... ohhhh....my head..........

We had checked all the ATMs in Chapala and Ajijic and when we were checking the HSBC, a guy came over and asked me for bus money. He had his credit cards in his hand and had bussed over from Jocotepec, trying to get out money for the weekend, and obviously failing. I gave him some bus fair and told him to not bother with Chapala, as we had just come from there. We finally found one working at 6pm at El Torido. And by 7:15pm all the ones in Centro Chapala were back up running again, with long long lines. My internet and landline were out until about that time, too. My parents, who are in West Ajijic, have internet back, but no landline, yet. All my friends with TelCel cellphones were without service all afternoon, too. I have iUsacell, and it and its' 3G network were just fine. As was the internet for friends of mine with telecable, so it seems like a purely TelMex issue.

My Chapala land line came back on this evening but still no Internet even though I can connect on my neighbor's wifi. Coming back from Ajijic we saw a long line at the Bancomer ATM so it must have been working. We were able to stream TV shows fine though using the edge of my neighbor's wifi range.

In Chapala our Telmex phone and Internet are out but our Telecable Internet is running fine.

In my part of Chapala (north), I have internet and phone and have had all day--though internet was sluggish. I have Telmex too.

Out here in the Ajijic suburbs, our land line has been down since about noon, but internet is fine.
Who needs landlines anyway?   

Agree! As long as there is internet, I am fine.

Mine was out in West Ajijic. Back on this morning. But for how long?

I was talking to someone in La Brisas last night and lost them so their phone went down again about 8pm.
I see she is online again this morning but don't know about the phone.

In Ajijic 8am sat.  Telecable internet is up but no internet access. Telmex internet is normal. In fact quite spunky today. Telmex phone is normal. Using Net Talk VOIP phone over Telmex is normal. Telmex internet to Seattle e mail server seems normal.  That's why I have both Telecable and Telmex as usually one is working.

Our internet is back. Went off yesterday, late morning. We live in upper Ajijic.

Internet came back on in Chapala Centro at 10 PM last evening. Still can't read any content of posts on TOB and that seems to be a separate issue.

Either they killed it (maybe a silver bullet?) or they linked the Insidelakeside membership to their list of banned contributors.

Well shoot we had a phone line between 7 and 9 but its gone again. Internet has been fine all this time.

My phone line came on last evening and continues to have a dial tone at this time.

my voltage regulator has been making steady noise at certain times for the last few days[like right now]. i wonder if cfe is wrecking everything else? our phone and internet is fine. the amigo system on cell is down[can't check for minutes]

anyone know what the problem was ?
