At the risk of this going both off-topic, and to the Octagon.....
it is a lot more livable up in the Great White North than central NM: ;-)

Re: Custom made Pool Cover Reel
actually,i have it on good authority, that the canadian covers were tested in igloolik, nunavut between may 18 and july26 one year as there is 24/7 sunshine during that period. and furthermore there was a hole in the ozone over the area at the time allowing maximum uv penetration.
we canadians don't fool around when we're testing product-SNORK!

Agree. I've found the easiest way to do it is wash it off as I crank it onto the reel. Then you have to go around with the net and get the rest.
I put my pool cover away from April through October. My solar panels easily keep the pool comfortable during those months.

But isn't one of the purposes of the cover to reduce evaporation?? It would be interesting to know the rate of evaporation vs. cost of the water to refill the pool to see if it is cost effective to keep a cover on the pool when not in use during the summer months.

Most rainy seasons we pump more water off than we lose to evaporation.

They are made of aluminum.

Re: Custom made Pool Cover Reel
In April and May, it is not unusual to see 1/2 to 1 inch of water loss per day to evaporation, with the humidity well under 20% most of the day.
Many pool owners have commented that they think their pool has developed a crack or leak.
For a typical pool of 36 m3 (4 x 6 x 1.5) that is 1.5 m deep, 1 inch of loss represents about 1.5% of the pool volume, or about .5 m3 = 500 liters.

But if I left the cover on the water temp would rise to the mid nineties. Way too hot. I would just as soon add some water.
