Something out of a spy novel.... real GDL story

So yesterday a truck with radioactive material was stolen in downtown Guadalajara by unknown persons and it was thought that it might be used in a terrorist event against the Book Fair as Israel was this year's invited country.  Few people knew about it and doesn't seem like the authorities did much but later in the day the truck was found abandoned but no accounting for the radioactive material if it was found intact.

Are you sure that was in Guadalajara?
A very similar incident happened outside of Mexico City. It set off an international alert. Latest news last night was that the radioactive material had been located. You can Google for links because the story was all over the media.

Now for local news ... they're digging up bodies in Zapopan.

This has to be one of the least factually accurate posts I've ever read on this forum,and that's saying something.

Was told to me by attorneys in a tower building next to the Expo building, maybe they were mistaken but they mentioned streets in GDL where it happened, perhaps a 2nd event?

because they were lawyers they should be believed even though the rest of the world knows it took place somewhere else? if it were an alleged second event it would be all over the news[not just mexican] like the for real event.

I thought what was interesting about the story is how the press handled it. It was Einstein himself who warned that nuclear power could be used for war, or used for peace. The world chose war - the radioactive boogeyman. Nuclear powered electrical plants, freighters, locomotives are all technically possible - and entirely safe. The public is still too wary though.

Now about 2 years ago there was a huge shortage of cobalt 60. The Canadian reactor was shut down, and the the one in France stopped for six months. This caused tremendous disruption, and I would say even death among the patients being treated with nuclear medicine. The Doctors were put in the position of deciding who was going to live or die. To me this is the story - the loss of these materials which have no market value except to medical facilities, and threatened medical care in Mexico. Instead it was brewed up as Mexican's own "homeland security" breach, and imaginations went wild. "Dirty" bombing an tiny Israeli book event - can you imagine?
