Heeeees back.

Went to the old Giovannis for lunch today, and while I was talking with Cristian, who should I see but his dad.

He was at another restaurant 2 doors over. He just could not stay away and has opened a new place which specializes in meat.
They are collaborating, so if you want something off either menu you can order it and eat at whichever one you want.
Perhaps a swarm is in order. Cristian still has the pics from the last one.Beer Beer

I've admired Giovanni all these years for continuing to come back against increasing odds... but now I think he's losing it.

We've been several times
We like the shish-kabobs

He does know how to cook

Losing it ??
Have you been.
What have you tried?

Personally,
I think Christian is a good son
Helping his old dad.

And they can share some things that might be good for all us -
Except those very discerning gourmets like HG...

There has been quite a soap opera at that little mall strip for quite a while involving various players. I agree he is a very good cook and I like him and his
food but I never know what will be open at that little strip mall or what will be served. It seems odd sometimes.

You are right, Zed. It is like the island in "Lost." You never know when you will be sucked into a great adventure there or have to just fly on by. I have had some great meals and fine times out that way, but am always prepared to be flexible when I head out.

While this should probably be in the "Food & Drink" section, another misplaced comment shouldn't hurt. Giovanni lost any future business from us about ten years ago after we gave him two chances and felt that his Italian was lacking. Ironically during our travels throughout Central Mexico, we have found excellent Italian entrees in restaurants not even claiming to be Italian.

I've known Giovanni for years, and I like the man a lot. I know Cristian even better; in fact, attended his wedding. My comment is based on his location turnover, never more so than the current situation. Cristian came over to help; they had two places going; Gio couldn't take it "again" and left, now he's back with a third location there? He's a glutton for punishment, if nothing else.

Trivia question of the day....for the Giovanni experts.
How many can name the location of the restaurant that Giovanni had in La Floresta?....and no, it wasn't a hundred years ago.  Very Happy

Probably not, but was it where the Pranzo thing is now? I like guessing...and if I'm right, what do I win?

You know, a year ago or so, I think I saw Giovanni's name on a sign at Pranzo...outside, but was told that no, this is not a Giovanni operation.  I think that has always been operated by the Gomez family since Perry March's wife left there.

The one I'm referring to was a complete operation run by Giovanni and some years earlier.

The prize for winning will lunch on me...at guess where?....Giovanni's   Very Happy
