We did it....

In just 1 week, the members of this forum have pledged and/or donated the funds to buy uniforms for the Union Ajijic soccer team.

So give yourselves a big pat on the back. Or better still, let the boys do it.

Come out to the Cruz Azul field (revolucion south from carretera, blue doors) at 12:30 on Saturday, and present the uniforms to them.

Stick around and cheer for your team. They are very good and worthy of your support.

I look forward to meeting many of the members, and thank you for making this happen.

Let me echo Zen's message. It would mean a lot to the kids to know that the community here cares, so come along if you can. I can't believe this all happened in a week!

Are we collecting enough for spare/replacement shirts and enough to outfit new Team members yet to join?

How about soccer shoes and shin pads? Can anyone estimate the additional cost?

I have just seen the new uniforms. They look sharp! We ordered 18 and 2 goalkeepers outfits. The company only had 15 of the sizes we wanted, so they owe us three more. Gio is going to pick up the other three next week.

I am also close to getting the preliminary website UnionAjijic.com up and running. I was asked to make video profiles of the eight players going to the try-outs at Torreon for the Santos coaches to preview. The others felt a bit left out so I decided to make video profiles of them all. They are all getting jazzed at seeing their football resumes on-line - I will be putting them on the new website. And it will be a way for everyone to get to know the players better.

The season ended the week before last. Last week's game was a friendly.
Gio said there would be a tournament coming up. I think this means that all the coaches get together and decide a tournament's coming up. Games seem to spring up and there is a definite network among the Mexicans involved with football lakeside - which I am not a part of. But as soon as I find out anything, I will be sure to post them here.
There is some sort of celebration coming up to present the league trophy and individual honours to the team and some of the players. Again, when I know more, I will post here.
