Until the state provides conditions for people to have a dignified end of life, including the possibility of seeking medical assistance to die, dying with dignity will continue to be a privilege of the few.

Seek out your local narco dealer. He’ll probably provide more help than your doctor

Re: What Is the Status of Medically Assisted Death in Mexico?
The article discusses Medically Assisted Death, as well as Palliative Care.
My experience is that even back in the 1980s in a conservative US state, patients with long-term relationships with their doctors who made their views on quality of life known, got a bit of a 'push' towards the end of their natural lives once their comfort could no longer be sustained. Similar experiences in the 2000's with doctors and hospices in conservative US states.
Have been told the same thing happens here in MX including locally.
The cases I dealt with were elderly patients in palliative care, but for very short periods of time.
There are a few states in US (and a few EU countries) that allow Medically Assisted Death and often the criteria is quite strict and requires you establish residency beforehand.
Best advice is to interview doctors, quiz them on their views about End of Life issues. They likely won't come out with a definitive statement, but you should be able to get a sense of your comfort level with them. If you don't, find another doctor. Once you find a doctor you trust, become their regular patient.

Canada has allowed medically assisted deaths for many years now.

Re: What Is the Status of Medically Assisted Death in Mexico?
I just listened to a podcast yesterday on a case currently taking place in Canada. There is a man challenging his adult daughter's request for MAID. The daughter has autism and apparently other medical issues, and her application for medically assisted suicide was signed off on by 2 doctors. As well, she is arguing that her medical records are private, between her and her health-care providers. Meanwhile, her father is arguing that she doesn't have the mental capacity to make the decision to qualify for MAID.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out, as it could set precendent. What if an elderly person with what they consider to be poor quality of life, or someone with a terminal illness decides they wish a medically assisted death and some family member opposes it and claims the person doesn't have the capacity to make that choice?
What if a mother who had a terminal illness and wanted MAID had the father of her children challenge that on the basis that she had no right to deprive their children of her care by unilaterally choosing to end her own life?
I foresee there will be cases like this over time.
