Walmart Intersection---- brake failure?
Do they ever have truck brake inspections?

The ironic part is that they don't allow the trucks to use their engine brakes on the way down the hill then wonder why trucks experience brake failures.......typical. Probably one of the most stupid things I have seen around here.......

Or any of the other developments that line both sides of the Libramiento on the way down. You can even hear jake brakes in Riviera Alta.

Well what was there first? The hill, then a road, then the developers that built the area... using the same trucks! Now the trucks are not allowed to operate safely? Why move into the area then? Someone will get hurt, because of Chula people.
Reminds ME of back home... large expansive area for the city garbage dump, large enough to last generations. Then the developers built housing across the highway from it... now the new residents are requesting/demanding/petitioning the city to move the dump!!!

I hear the brakes in North Chapala.... can only hope they stop the truck.
But I agree the truckers abuse it often, no reason to come flying into the residential area in the first place, especially into Chapala with its two lanes.

There are only two ways directly into the area (other than coming in from Joco). Either down the hill into Chapala or down the hill on the libremiento. Overloaded trucks need to use the jake for a portion of each to avoid the risk of burning out the brakes. Perhaps they need to dictate hours of the day which it may be used?

The sign on the Libramiento that requested NOT to use the jake brakes has been removed. They were posted on the curve with the series of topes opposite Vista Alegre.

Now they need a sign that says to use Jake brake if necessary!

Well that's a good start. Any good driver knows that if you start the hill in the proper gear and use the jake you don't even have to use the mechanical brakes until you get to the lights at the bottom. Yes, they are noisy........

There are plenty of accidents on the level part of the libramiento, before the curve, and some people have been killed.  The trucks that go through  the Walmart intersection from the libramiento, have been poorly maintained, going too fast downhill, with loads that are far too heavy or shift.  The one with the rocks a few days ago tipped over when making the eastbound turn.  There's an apparent misconception that those gated communities are populated by 'expats'.  Mine sure isn't. Mexicans outnumber the immigrants by quite a bit.  As another poster said, the sign forbidding  jake brakes was removed some time ago.  The trucks used to use them anyway.  The problem seems to be more than jake brakes.

There were 2 female pedestrians who were apparently seriously injured by that load of rocks and rushed to hospital, one is in critical condition.

I hate that intersection. It's been a mess since the get go and I will go out of my way to avoid it.

Most of the trucks I see in Mexico are seriously overloaded. I have to make the drive from Sayulita to Bucerias on the twisty turny jungle road about once every ten days, where kilometers of traffic get backed up behind these trucks that can't go more than 10 kms/hr. on even a slight rise. Because obviously the load is far too great for the size of the motor. (The "double semi-remolcas", loaded with iron pipe are some of my favorites- no way you can pass those guys on the few short straight stretches)

I've wondered why Mexico hasn't caught on to weigh stations, which are all over the US and Canada. Mexico could have a whole new source of revenue fining these trucks and cut the highway death toll way down by pulling them off the road.

But a lot of these trucks are probably hauling for some rich muckedy-mucks who'd just pay off the inspectors to turn a blind eye.

The sign outside of Las Palmas Restaurante says "PROHIBIDO FRENAR CON MOTOR"at least last Thursday it was there.

So it wasn't taken down.......
