Dog baths Empty Dog baths

I'm new here and don't fully understand the culture.  Do pet owners in Mexico generally bath their dogs?  I like to pet my neighbors dog through the fence. (I am forbidden to feed her any treats).  She smells bad and I always say to her, «Puma, necesitas un baño!» ("You need a bath!")  I know matters concerning dogs, cats and other pets here are lightening rods for controversy.  Perhaps I have death wish, but I'm asking . . .

I would say the less fortunate Mexicans who own dogs can barely feed them and probably don't bath them either. Some just kick them to the street during the day hoping the dog can forge something on its own. There is a Mexican woman in my neighborhood who has 5 dogs and is always asking for money to feed them. They are up at the plaza butcher shop every morning looking for scrapes.....

I would second Bob's observation about dog bathing.

Not to hijack the thread but I can't help but chuckle every time I pass the plaza Butcher shop and see all the dogs (some quite big) sitting so patiently and expectantly just at the store threshold.

I would add the dogs I see outside the butcher shop near the Ajijic plaza also seem to be in very good condition.

You could ask the neighbor if you can give the dog a bath. As it may have never had a bath and water/hose has been used as a behaviour deterrent you could be in for some strenuous activity.
My dogs like to roll on the ground and grass after they've had a bath but at least I tried.
