Emergency Message for U.S. Citizens:
Gas Leak SW Guadalajara
October 16, 2013

BEGIN TEXT.

The US Consulate General in Guadalajara alerts all U.S. citizens to an unfolding gas leak situation in the southwest side of Guadalajara around the area where Avenida Patria intersects with Avenida Cruz del Sur. According to Informador.Com.MX the Secretary General of the Government, Arturo Zamora, stated that it is unknown when people evacuated from this area may return to their homes. Civil Protection Authorities requested the evacuation of schools, universities and homes in a 15 block area around the gas leak. The safety perimeter around the leak borders on Lopez Mateos Sur, a main city artery. The U.S. Consulate urges U.S. citizens to avoid driving to this part of the city until the authorities have indicated it is safe to return.

Any news update on this? Does it affect either of the Costco stores? New one seems to be on the border of this area. Not sure about the old one.

No,the Costco stores were not affected, but 6000 people were evacauated from their homes, schools and businesses to prevent a tragedy like the one that happened in 1992.
