I can build you one if you want. You can pick the color of the exterior and interior, and the rims and tires. If you supply me a running VW it will run you about $4500 USD for all the body mods, paint, upholstery, light accessories, tires/rims, roll bar and my labor to tear it apart and put it all together. If you want me to supply the VW it will run you about $6500.00 USD.

Fully insurable and street legal. Way better than an ATV or Goof-Cart.

Very nice Bob. Now, how about some cute, adorable chihuahua pics? Your lovely wife seems very attached to that one (or vice versa).

The lights weren't tightened up when I took the picture so one was drooping.

Vinyl. Leather would get ruined if it got soaked.

I can see you've never tried to do it in a Volkswagen. Darn near impossible unless you're a contortionist.

I've done that, to our mutual enjoyment. It was long ago when we were all contortionists. Much preferred the back seat of the 74 Olds Super 88. It should be so much more user friendly in CB's new ROD. No roof to contend with for one. LOL.

CBOB: I really like what you're doing on your VolksRod. It looks really good.

Six years ago when I first came to lakeside I lived in my RV which was parked in San Juan Cosala. Later on I got a house in Ajijic and walked everywhere. At that point in time a car was a luxury but I started to look around for something to drive. I thought about getting a VW Safari "Thing" but the only ones I located for sale were overpriced I thought. I bought an old VW bug but it never occurred to me to customize it like what you have done.

A couple of years ago I had to go to Houston for cancer therapy and I needed a car to get to the hospital. I bought a Honda Accord EX in Houston. I had owned two prior to coming to Mexico and they are an excellent car. It has a sunroof and I can go anywhere I want in Mexico except where you need a 4 wheel drive.

In January when I have to renew my visa I am probably going to try and get the residente permanente which means I may have to get rid of my Texas plated car. I may keep the Accord garaged until it's old enough that I can import it into Mexico. Or I may try to create a VolksRod of my own.

Keep on truckin'.

Is the VolksRod finished? Do you have the red flames painted yet? Please post a picture of the finished VolksRod. Thanks.

Thumbs up

VW things are too expensive down here. A good one goes for 5K$, Good bug 2/3K$ USD.
CB did the right thing. He has something nice and custom. We shall see if the sun gets to
him in April and May and he will need to add a bikini top and whether his head will fit underneath
the top.

In the US we call it rat rod paint. So he has a VW rat rod. His is actually too nice for some people LOL.

A bimini top is part of the plan. I still need to get some custom bumpers and running boards made, carpet, some nice rims/tires and of course the flames. I got distracted with Xmas and visitors and need to get back on it.

I agree that a chopped windshield would be very cool however it would limit my bimini top options and at this point I don't know where to get custom made auto safety glass around here. If I decide I don't need a bimini then I will definitely investigate further.
