Thats also why you should put something to collect all the spilt sugar
water underneath the feeder unless you like ants.

Lucky you. Up here in the frozen north we have to take them in at night on account of the bears.... Lizzy

Re: Mexican Hummingbirds???
We will take the feeder in at night from now on or at least when we don't want to watch the bats. I think they are fascinating. They had no fear of the light or me taking pictures. At one point there were about 6 swarming around us. Very cool.
Re: Mexican Hummingbirds???
If you want a lot of hummingbirds around, plant one of the fast growing vines with the purple flowers. Put a birdbath in the yard. We have lots of hummers here and they're getting their favorite form of food. We have a very small patio but plenty of walls, so this works out. They like bougies, too. One caveat: They're jumpy little things. Dogs and cats scare them off......so we made some choices and voted for birdwatching.

You may want to keep the bats around. They help pollinate flowers and eat lots of bugs!

Bats around is fine......but we're not going to feed them sugar water. Let 'em eat the bugs.

Sugar water....???????? I have been feeding them raspberry infused tequila. They seem to love it. I do however need to get a bouncer now to toss the rowdies........

I prefer them on the grill instead of baked. Try using the fish baskets to keep the little buggers from falling through the grill.

Re: Mexican Hummingbirds???
After a while the hummingbirds start to know you. When I lived down by the
big trees on Sept 16 in Ajijic I could lean up against a post with my head facing
the feeder 12"away and they would buzz all around my head. In the morning
they would click outside my bedroom window telling me to get up and put the
feeder back up. Very pretty but kinda nasty creatures.

If not nasty very territorial they don't like to share the feeder, even when there are empty perches.Probably Republicans.

Yes, I believe that is the male. He lets one smaller dark one drink. I assume that is his esposa.........
Re: Mexican Hummingbirds???
Back in 2006 we had 3 feeders, have photos of at least 15 hitting the feeder....then discovered sugar bats also "feed" since removing, they work for their food.
