Here is a link to a better article. A tragic event.
http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Mexican+police+identify+suspect+point+blank+shooting+Saltspring/5947390/story.html
As usual this event has made the headlines all across Canada. A local Vancouver radio station was even hosting talk shows on the subject yesterday. Another serious blow to the Mexican tourism industry for Canadian travellers.

It doesn't matter how they entered, jump the wall, neighbors property ?? I can't believe the people in La Manzanilla telling about stuff stolen while they are there. Leaving valuables by an unsecured window, unsecured doors. The robbers cut a screen and took our stuff. Lots of people just don't get Mexico and living around poor people ... let alone the need for drug money.
If you have stuff they want then you need security
I agree TomZap is a zoo
Re: Canadian in Melaque shot

Re: Canadian in Melaque shot
Here is another link to a detailed report from CBC.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/story/2012/01/04/bc-mexico-death.html
There was also a report on the news about another Canadian killed near the US/Mexico border last week. Details are just surfacing on this one. Apparently this person tried out running some carjackers and was involved in a very high speed chase that resulted in a flip over. The carjackers approached the flipped vehicle and shot the guy and his passenger. The passenger (a US citizen) is still alive. The news said there were very few details on this one so far and I haven't been able to find any reports on the net yet.

Re: Canadian in Melaque shot
Actually, that sounds like a story from 2 years ago. Deja vu?

Re: Canadian in Melaque shot
It does sound like that story from a few years ago however some of the details are different. In that older story the guy got shot trying to run the roadblock. There was no high speed chase............although maybe some news guy has his stories mixed up. Have to wait and see if anything further surfaces.
Re: Canadian in Melaque shot
Anybody know what type of neighborhood it was? Appeared to be somewhat crime ridden.

Re: Canadian in Melaque shot
This story, posted at the crime news site La PolicĂaca today, reports the murder of a U. S. citizen couple in Mexicali on Tuesday. It says they were found outside a motor home that showed signs of a fight, but does not say anything about a chase or indicate it was being driven at the time of death. Death was from a combination of stab wounds, head trauma and strangling. No arrests.

Edited to add: The story below makes clear the motor home was parked and they were living at the site. Apparently only the man was a U. S. citizen.

Re: Canadian in Melaque shot
Police never seem to get their due but it looks like they have looked into this murder.
"Two men have been arrested in Mexico and authorities are seeking a third in connection with the Jan. 3 homicide of Robin Wood in Melaque.
The prosecutor said the two accused have already faced a judge who will decide on the basis of evidence presented whether to hold them in custody or let them go in the next three to six days."

Tom Zap board.
"I was at the meeting tonight and it was confirmed that the police have arrested two men and they have told the police the name of the murderer. Police are apparently putting pressure on that family to tell them where he is."
