Friends are here from NOB for 4 months. He's a total fishing nut. I need a recommendation for a good fishing captain in Manzanillo, Barra, or Melaque. This is not for trophy marlin or sailfish but for dorado and other good fish to eat. Tell me who you've been with that's good and who to avoid.

Ask your bud within shouting distance whose grandson caught a 200 lb. marlin the other day with one of the local fishing boat captains.

Jim,
Is one place better than the others or all pretty much the same? What do they charge?
Gracias!

David, Jeremy is also a realtor, and set up our condo as well. He has the largest boat, and It has been a couple years ago, was approx. 2400 pesos, and you can fish up to eight people, plus tip. The other boats lauch in Barra/Melaque, fish up to 6, and ran approx 2500 pesos plus tip....no head on launch.

I'm sure their prices have increased a little. Out of Barra, Gerardo Kosonoy is good. He speaks English. Out of Manzanillo, Jeremy does a great job, plus he has a bridge on his boat and much easier to fish out of....Pull up his web site for more info. I hope this helps.

Jim

I have been fishing with Jeremy in Manzanillo. He a good guy. He's also from Oregon, David. It's an older boat (43'??) but does the job. He gave me and my buddy a pretty good deal for a 6 hour trip. I think he charged us $75.00 each. We caught some blue finned tuna and hooked into a sailfish that got away.

That sounds really good. Is one area better for fishing than another or are they similar?

I would think they would be about the same but I haven't fished out of Barre. The only advantage may be less commercial fishing happening out of Barre??

I'm guessing they're similar, not many miles of ocean between Manz and Melaque.

Looks good. I'd have no problem spending a day on that. Love to catch some tuna and dorado! I'm smoking some salmon right now and it smells so good I'm getting hungry!

Jeremy's boat is far more comfortable than the 24' out of Barra d Navidad, plus he can get you deals on lodging and dining.

Bob, Last year we fished out of his boat....He said he had the only boat equipped with live well @ the time....fishing with live bait makes a huge difference
