Plating a trailer
How hard and expensive is it to plate a trailer from the US? I just bought a trailer here that had come from NV and I have the title.
Thank you!
Thank you!

Re: Plating a trailer
You can't. Undoubtedly, the trailer came attached to car with a TIP. The car and trailer must leave the country together. The serial number of the trailer will be in the Aduana database and will show up when you try to plate it in Mexico.

How canI check to see if the trailer VIN is in the data base? The seller said it never got registered with the car.

Re: Plating a trailer
But if the trailer didn't come in on a TIP wouldn't it be considered "illegally in the country"?
Re: Plating a trailer
Yeah that's what I'm afraid of. I have asked Spencer to check the database and will go from there.

A trailer on it's own? Where's the steering wheel?

The steering wheel is disguised as the crank on the front of the trailer. It has electric motors on each wheel. Very economical!

Unfortunately it was a US vehicle, but that might be an angle to work with.

Re: Plating a trailer
The sale of the trailer was illegal. The car that towed it into Mexico cannot have its TIP removed because the trailer is now missing.
So, you have an illegal trailer AND the seller has a problem.
Many folks don‘t seem to realize that the trailer is definitely a part of the car‘s TIP because they don‘t know what the word, remolque, means on the paperwork. It means, Trailer.
If you can get your money back, and return the trailer, the problem is solved. If not; maybe you can title it in SD by mail. It will still be illegal in Mexico, but you could then sell it in the USA.....NOT IN Mexico.

NEGringos, can you tell us what you found out, also have a friend that has a trailer that will need to be sold. Truck taken out of the country without the trailer, and it was imported and nationalized back to MX. Thanks

Re: Plating a trailer
Well here is an update, not sure if it will help as I have not heard a final reply from Spencer yet as he is out of town.
He had asked me what database I was referring to when I asked about checking the VIN to see if it was in there.
Talked with the seller again and he said when they crossed the border with the trailer, it was on a Sunday and no one was there to even get the TIP for the car! He went up to Laredo after being here to get it and didn't take the trailer. So the trailer is here illegally. I am really not to worried about getting it out of MX, I just need it legal for the US now. Trying to find out how to plate it in South Dakota over the web and mail.
So if asked about it when I cross, I will say I came in on a Sunday and no one was there. Fingers crossed.

Re: Plating a trailer
OK, I'll fess up.
We have a U.S. trailer that has no vin. Many years ago, when you could still do such a thing, we paid a guy in Joco, who makes trailers, to give us a receipt. We then took the receipt to the records office and they gave us Mexican plates.
Don't think this would work if there is a vin # on file anywhere.

Now THAT is an idea! This VIN is a sticker on the frame, I sure as hell can get that bitch off of there! As I stated above, it has never been registered in MX. Many thanx!
