Isla Marieta
Did some snorkeling at Isla Marieta today. What a beautiful Island. Glad to see it is being protected by the government.
Unfortunately the tide was getting high so we couldn't get all the way in here. At high tide the entrance is completely under water.

Re: Isla Marieta
Bob,
are you allowed onto the vegetated part of the island or just down on the beach? How long at the island?

Re: Isla Marieta
No one is allowed on the island. Only on that "hidden beach". The total trip was 6 hours. 1 hour out, 4 at the island and 1 hour back.
Re: Isla Marieta
The island is now closed to visitors.

Nothing to do with climate or heat.

Re: Isla Marieta
It's almost July, hot. Humid. And, B, you cannot go to this island anymore.
Maybe lake fishing? Laguna Santa Maria del Oro? Aguamilpa?

Re: Isla Marieta
Aguamilpa is pretty much the same as the coast for heat and humidity at this time of the year.

The island itself has been closed to visitors for years (other than the hidden Laguna). Are you saying that there is no more snorkeling tours off it's coast now?

That is correct. No snorkeling, kayaking or boating. The reefs have been damaged by too many visitors. Supposedly when they are restored, there will be strict limits on how many people can visit.

Exactly what my friends in Melaque say. They used to take boats over often. No mas.

Pretty amazing for a bomb test. I'd love to go there. How was the ride out there? I get sea sick and not sure about my back if there are large waves bouncing the boat.

Grandma

Re: Isla Marieta
Isla Marieta is open to limited tours once again. If you take one of the tours, the ride there is usually on a very large catamaran. You won't likely have a problem with seasickness although no guarantee.
