Just to set the record straight
I constantly hear people telling potential newcomers to bring a whole host of items because they cannot be bought in Mexico. The list always seems to include:
- Quality linens
- Clothing such as brand name jeans
- Quality tableware
- Kitchen appliances
- Quality cookware
While that may be true for those people whose "Mexican universe" starts at Jocotepec and ends at Chapala, those that realize Guadalajara and the rest of Mexico exist, that advice is total BS.
Everything can be found in Guadalajara. As an example Galerias Mall has endless, extremely high quality stores including Best Buy, Sears, Liverpool and every name brand jean, clothing & footwear store you can think of. There is not one item (other than Tim Horton's coffee..jaja) that you won't be able find in Guadalajara. I was in a kitchen store near San Juan de Dios plaza that had some of the finest cutlery, cookware and small appliances I have ever seen assembled in one place.

Re: Just to set the record straight
How true! There is also a good selection of European products that one seldom has access to in the USA.
I think the problem is caused by the double L syndrome: Linguistics and Laziness.

Besides all that, for those who don't need the finest of the finest everything, they should be able to locate "good enough" at Costco or Sam's. After that, there's the catalogs and shipping to their doors.

Dockers at Liverpool cost almost $100 US. I bought some last month in VA for $40. Likewise for dinnerware and glassware. If you can bear the price you can get most everything here. IMHO, if you're moving her bring your linens, tableware, and kitchenware. YMMV.

You do not need to bring people with advice.
We have lots of those here.

Also remember that those bargain prices sheets bought in the US are a different size than Mexican mattresses.

Re: Just to set the record straight
Selection and price. I was in the states this year 3X for family emergencies. I hadn't been in the US for 4 years. I spent probably 2-3 hours in Walmart Easter Sunday. lol there was just so much to look at that we don't have available here. I wouldn't spend an hour in our Walmart here, hehe I can get by and there is a lot available here. It is a lot better than 12 years ago and even having things shipped is easier. There are some particular things, small appliances, that if I were to replace I'd still get them from the US, only because I'm really hard on my small appliances. In our favor, is the exchange rate. It's not that those items cannot be gotten here, it is the selection that is different. Buying jeans and clothes in the US was clothes heaven for me, I'm tall. My favorite stores for buying clothes here are H&M and some at Costco. In the states I could get a haul at Kolh's, Macy's and especially Ross. The sales are insane. Hey, there were sales in the malls here last week, pre Christmas sales. Even 20-40% off Christmas decor.

Re: Just to set the record straight
CB's post addresses the "availability" of NOB, etc. products in Mexico. Another reply mentions european products that may not even be available NOB. That's the "availability side". The "flip side" is the cost side. Lets face it. Quality cotton products, electronics, etc. are just plain way cheaper NOB. Let's face it. Who wouldn't want to take an US 5 grand bill and go hog wild shopping in Phoenix for a week. Ross, Kohls, Best buy, etc. A lot of us would be set forever. Those products are all disposable. Mexico provides quality craft made stuff. That's my interest.

There is a large candy store on the west side of Madero, in Chapala, north of the SurtiWash and Surtidor stores.
