Daniel Jackson - The Jeweler

Daniel Jackson Garcia is unquestionably the best jeweler in the area and a very nice guy with a nice family. He was horribly burned and his studio destroyed in a fire/explosion on Friday afternoon. Over 40% of his body is burned. We are all hoping his hands and eyes survive. He was to come home from the hospital yesterday but I have not been able to confirm that.

There's no tools, no kiln, nothing left. Metal beams bent from the heat. Everything will have to be rebuilt, all his tools and supplies must be replaced. He will have no source of income while trying to rebuild. Daniel's apprentice didn't show up on-time that day, so she's OK. Daniel's wife and little boy weren't in the damaged area. She has a large, extended family here so the family will be cared for. However, his nephew was with him and was also burned, perhaps worse. Workmen will be sifting through the ruins for stones, melted gold, etc.. There was a safe, but nobody knows if it was fireproof. I learned today that, at least for now, Diane Pearl's Gallery is the drop-off point for donations. This man and his family need our help.

OMG. this is so horrible. We used him all the time. We can only hope he will have a good recovery.

He will need the donations and it's time for EVERYONE to step up to the plate. We can all afford it.

What time did this happen? We saw police trucks and ambulances speeding down the Carretera on Friday PM.

I've just sent an email off to my fellow Shriners to see if we can help the nephew with his burns.

Daniel has always been a big supporter of our local Shrine Club and I'm sure we will be of assistance individually.

I heard his Roof Top Propane Tank blew up....

Might be a good time to remind folks... Propane is very explosive... if you smell propane or think you might have a leak in your system...
Get It Fixed!!

I have my propane tank as far away from the house as it can get and not on the roof. I thought it might be one of his torches for welding jewelry but can't see how that would start a fire that hot. Propane tank makes sense.

I heard from his neighbour down the street that it was a torch and gas furnace he was using to melt metal.

If it was his roof top tank or any tank, the house wouldn't be standing and some surrounding properties would be damaged too. A 20 lb propane tank is what demolishes most power boats. What do you think a 300 liter tank could do?

Has anyone heard how he is doing?

Danial called a mutual friend today; he expects to be release from the hospital on Friday. He's doing OK considering.

I sent the original posting to my neighbor who is very active in the Shriner's. Daniel is a Mason.

The answer I received last night was that he was in Hospital Civil that has a state of the art burn unit. She said he would have received good care and that the Masons & Shriner's can help as a group.

I hope they step up. Daniel has no insurance to cover his losses or his medical bills. The rest of us can make a contribution at Diane Pearl's Gallery. Let's all do it now!

The Shriners can do wonderful things. I hope they can help Daniel with his medical issues. And then there is repairing the workshop and equipment.
